The lightning-caused fire is estimated at 257-acres and is now 53% contained. The Spread Creek Fire is located near Sagebrush Flat in the Spread Creek Drainage, approximately three miles south of Highway 26/287, on the Blackrock Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Firefighting resources include two type 1 helicopters, one type 3 helicopter, Infrared-capable UAS, four interagency hotshot crews, one type 2 initial attack crew, three type 3 engines, three type 6 engines, two suppression crews and additional support resources. Approximately 167 personnel are assigned to the fire. The fire showed minimal activity on Friday, with only light interior smoke visible. Fire crews significantly increased containment as they extended hose lay along the heel and flanks of the fire and mopped up smoldering areas within the perimeter. Hand crews are working to establish containment lines along the east side and heel of the fire. Crews will continue direct attack, working along the fire’s edge to strengthen control lines and increase containment, while aerial resources support operations on the ground. Saturday will be a bit cooler and less dry as moisture in the atmosphere increases. This will lead to minimum humidity remaining elevated above 25 percent, as well as a chance of a passing shower or thunderstorm over the fire area. Wind will remain elevated, prevailing out of the west with gusts to around 25 mph this afternoon. Any shower or thunderstorm passing near the fire area could produce wind gusts around 40 mph. The chance of wetting rain remains low with this activity. Wind will drop off slightly but remain elevated after sunset as a weak cold front approaches from the west. This will bring colder temperatures Sunday morning and increase the chances of snow showers by Sunday afternoon. The public is asked to avoid the Hatchet and Flagstaff roads and fire area so crews can work safely and efficiently. Expect increased fire traffic on Highway 26/287 near the Blackrock Ranger Station and give emergency vehicles plenty of space. For other news, events and information, visit the Bridger-Teton National Forest website and follow the Bridger-Teton on Facebook and X @BridgerTetonNF.
