Our Threads (Meta) Account was Removed

Happening Now's official Threads account was unexpectedly suspended without warning or explanation.

When an Independent News Platform Gets Silenced Without Warning

June 2026

This Father’s Day weekend was supposed to be a time to spend with family and reflect on the progress we’ve made building Happening Now, an independent news aggregation and analysis platform focused on delivering timely, transparent, and accessible news to readers.

Instead, I received disappointing news: our official Threads account was suspended and deactivated without warning.

There was no prior notification. No indication that our account was violating policies. No request to correct a problem. No meaningful opportunity to understand what happened before the account disappeared.

As the founder and developer behind Happening Now, I find this deeply frustrating.

For independent publishers and small technology platforms, social media networks are one of the few affordable ways to reach new audiences. Unlike major media organizations with dedicated marketing budgets and large staffs, independent news platforms rely heavily on organic reach to introduce readers to new ideas, stories, and perspectives.

When an account is removed without warning, it doesn’t just impact a social media profile—it disrupts months of work, audience development, and platform growth.

What concerns me most is the growing possibility that automated moderation systems may be acting too aggressively against legitimate publishers and independent creators. While automation and AI undoubtedly help platforms manage billions of posts, they must be balanced with transparency, accountability, and human review.

If legitimate news organizations, developers, and independent publishers are being incorrectly flagged, the result is fewer voices, less competition, and a weaker information ecosystem overall.

Happening Now has always operated with the goal of helping readers discover news from multiple sources and viewpoints. We do not engage in spam campaigns, deceptive practices, or artificial engagement tactics. Our focus has always been on building technology that helps people stay informed.

Because of this unexpected suspension, we have temporarily paused all Threads-related social publishing and content ingestion activities while we work to better understand what occurred and whether there is a path toward restoring the account.

I remain hopeful that someone from Meta will review this situation and provide clarity. If this suspension was the result of an error, I would welcome the opportunity to work through the appropriate channels to resolve it.

Independent journalism, independent publishing, and independent technology projects deserve fair treatment and transparent processes. Platforms have every right to enforce their policies, but creators and publishers also deserve clear communication, meaningful explanations, and an opportunity to appeal decisions that affect their work.

To our readers and supporters: thank you for continuing to support Happening Now. We will continue building the platform, improving the product, and expanding our reach through other channels while we seek answers.

The mission remains unchanged: help people discover important stories, understand why they matter, and stay informed in a rapidly changing world.
