HappeningNow has officially moved to Taxonomy V3

Expanding how stories are organized, discovered, and personalized across the platform.

The most visible addition is a brand-new category:

🎮 Gaming Has Arrived

Gaming is now a first-class HappeningNow news category alongside Global, Technology, Business, Cybersecurity, Science, Sports, Entertainment, Weather, Health, Energy, and Crime & Justice.

The new Gaming section brings together coverage across the industry, including:

• New game releases and announcements
• PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo
• Studios and publishers
• Updates, expansions, and live-service changes
• Industry acquisitions and layoffs
• Rumors, leaks, and upcoming hardware
• The business and technology behind games

Gaming isn't simply another feed added to the site. It has been integrated into the same news intelligence system that powers the rest of HappeningNow.

A Smarter Topic System

Taxonomy V3 also introduces a stronger foundation for topics.

Instead of treating every variation of a subject as something different, HappeningNow can now understand relationships between related terms.

For example, PlayStation-related terms such as PS5, PS4, and PlayStation 5 can resolve into a canonical PlayStationtopic.

That gives HappeningNow a cleaner foundation for topic pages, timelines, discovery, and future contextual features.

Gaming launches with three visible topics:

Nintendo · PlayStation · Xbox

More can be introduced as the topic system develops.

Your News Mix, In Your Order

We also improved category personalization.

Readers can continue selecting up to three categories for their HappeningNow front page, but Taxonomy V3 now preserves the order in which those categories are selected.

Choose:

Gaming → Technology → Science

and that's the order your front page follows.

Change your mind? Deselect a category and add it again, and it moves to the end of your news mix.

The default HappeningNow front page now begins with:

Gaming → Global → Technology

And the category headers themselves now provide a direct path into each category's full coverage.

All 12 Categories Remain Available

Personalization doesn't limit what you can explore.

The front page lets you choose three categories for your personalized edition, while the Categories directory provides access to all 12 HappeningNow categories.

We've refreshed that experience as part of V3 as well, giving every category clearer editorial context and a cleaner path into its latest coverage.

Built for More Than Categories

Taxonomy V3 is ultimately about more than adding Gaming.

It's another step toward making HappeningNow understand the relationships between stories, categories, topics, and developing news events rather than simply displaying a collection of headlines.

That foundation opens the door to richer topic timelines, stronger discovery, better contextual navigation, and more ways to follow a story as it develops.
