AI Summary

Israeli President Isaac Herzog appointed Gadi Eisenkot, the chief rival of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to attempt to assemble a new government after last month’s parliamentary vote. Netanyahu’s coalition fell short of a majority in the October 27 election, and no single party secured enough Knesset seats to form a governing coalition. Herzog’s move tasks Eisenkot with negotiating a viable governing arrangement.
